Dim lights,
Popcorn popped,
A night like any other.
Friends around the TV like a campfire,
Unsure of what was about to appear,
It was scary,
Of course.

They knew she didn't like them.
They all shhhhed and giggled while the previews of movies to come rolled across the screen.
The popcorn traded hands,
She got it last.
The menu came up;
They knew the reaction,
Counted the seconds before she screamed
She shouted,
Scrambled for the remote.
But they knew,
They were ready.
They kept it out of reach and pressed play.
They loved her reaction,
Defeated,
She dived under the covers, refusing to come out,
With hands clamped on her ears she waited, waited until the movie was taken from the screen;
So… priceless.
That’s why they meet every other weekend for movies.
