A Handful of Shadow

A loaf of bread
Warm in the middle
But cold on
The flakey
Outside.
A pitcher of water
Bubbles form and
Dissipate in
The lukewarm
Interior.
A piece of paper
Smooth as silk
And white as snow
With stories
Untold.
A pack of wolves
Howls are heard
Each with its
Own unique
Voice.
A group of fists
Cheers and a countdown
Are vaguely distinguished
Among calls of
Life.
A handful of shadow
Darkness surrounds a
Boy who has come to
An agreement with
Death.
