He holds her tight,
He'll treat her right.
Jessica is her name,
His world will never be the same.

Tiny footprints dance across wood floors,
Toys scattered around the room as she runs to the door.
His face lights up as she leaps into his grasp.
Daddy's home at last.

Walking up the drive after school, eleven sixty-seven, enter too.
He's waiting for her as she walks in, "Hi honey, how are you?"
She's screaming and he's shouting back, he makes her a deal.
How 'bout we just forget? His lips are sealed.

The diagnosis is in; he's standing at the window.
She doesn't even know.
She's yelling at him, she doesn't get it.
The big C word…he's said it.

Shut the shades tight,
Hope everything will be alright.
Mommy's crying.
Daddy's dying.

She holds him, she doesn't want to let go.
All the fights…how was she supposed to know?
"I’ll see you later, sweetie," he whispers.
"Bye Daddy," she whimpers.

That life's gone, they're miles away.
Today's a fresh day.
New friends, new family,
New person for her to be.

Sixteen-years-old and face to the sky,
Trying so hard not to cry.
Daddy says it's okay to go on and open the next chapter,
As long as she won't forget the Daddy that loves her.

As she flips the page,
Goes onto the next stage.
Daddy's arm is on her shoulder,
Ready for her to take this world over.
