What I Have Not Become

I was told one day when I was very young,
Of the poised well-rounded woman that I would become.
As a child I would find this quite odd,
That a day would come when I would stop,
Acting obnoxious, impatient, spoiled, and rude,
Carefree, silly, and unspeakably crude.
When my teen years came I was more surprised,
That the good-hearted being in me had yet to rise.
Was I doing something wrong?
Had I been mistaken?
Perhaps the child in me will never be shaken.
