Just a Tree

Just background noise
an extra with no lines.
Passing by in the scenery, silently
The main characters will never interact with me.
I played the tree in our pre-k production.
Now I’m all grown and I’m still nothing
Passed for the chance for Romeo
In my life I don’t even play the lead role
No, not even the hero of my own story.
I have a few lines, but they're quickly forgotten.
When the audience is watching
they're eyes are on the main cast,
not the Notre Dame Hunchback
