The End of the World

I am the man
Mangled and hungry
On the streets of Los Angeles

I am the hand
Of the rising wave
That gathers on crowded beaches

I am the spaceship
That you are all afraid of
Even though you shouldn’t be

I am the missile
That strikes at dawn
Calling for revenge on another

I am the smoke
That curls from your factories
Burning through the blue of your sky

I am the person in the corner
Who never squeals euphorically
On New Year’s Eve

I am the movie
That you made one too many times
That has become a dead cliche

You discarded my forebodings
You cast me away
And now I am the bane of us all
