Measure

Intelligence
cannot be measured by
markings on a paper
or numbers one to a hundred.

Intelligence cannot be justified
by such foolish
human standards
just as love
cannot be measured
in kisses.

Rather,
love is measured
in trips to the book store
in the snow
in the dark
late on a sunday night
because i needed something to read.

Love cannot be measured in
“i love you’s”
but rather in
“i love you too’s.”

So remember
my darling.

Intelligence
is not something
you can see on a paper.

We like to take tests
and give our jeans sizes
and record our distance

because we cannot accept
that we can just
be.

To just be
is not something
that humans understand.

But the stars
they understand
and what more can we hope for?
