He said, “I will take care of her.”

I trusted him.
He said, “She will be okay.”

I believed him.
He said, “Go wait downstairs.”

I sat.
He said, “Just a few more hours and we will be done.”

I bought coffee.
He said, “This is common procedure.”

I listened.
He said, “We need to perform a Cesarean Section.”

I shuddered.
He said, “The nurse will get you when it is over.”

I waited.
He said, “There was nothing we could do.”

They both died.

This poem is about the trust that one man put in a doctor and what happened to that man's wife and unborn child as a result of that trust.
