A Dead Flame This work is considered exceptional by our editorial staff.

I watch
As your light flickers,
A warm sign of safety
In this dark place.

Your life,
So fragile,
You can be erased
With a slight breeze,
Or a small sprinkling of water.

Your delicate flame,
Is your steady heartbeat.

You are just a fraction
Of what you used to be,
For survival.

I watch
As your light flickers,
Once more,
You give into the darkness.
