I miss you, Daddy.

My daddy didn’t die in the war.
He didn’t die in the towers.
My dad didn’t leave me in a car.
He didn’t walk a thousand miles to see me one last time.
It wasn’t overseas,
There was no cancer.
My daddy didn’t leave me with a noble story.
My daddy wasn’t perfect, I know.
He chose a path of shakes and shivers,
A path of night terrors and tremors,
My dad left me with a hug and a kiss.
He won’t walk me down the aisle, but he’ll be there.
Even though he is gone because of the path he chose, I still love him.
My daddy is great, he is strong and free.
I hope he sees me.
I miss him a lot.
I wonder if he’s proud, proud to see how’ve I grown.
My mother can’t comfort me, she can’t even recite her name.
My mother’s up and out.
How is this tame?
I can’t think too much,
Of all the days.
I miss my mom, and dad.
In every way,
I love them, too,
More, and more every day.
