I like to say aloud the names of others.
My closest friends, brand new acquaintances,
authority figures. Their owners aside,
names have personalities of their own.
“Jordan” is blunt and bold,
it pushes you out of the way.
“Eva” is softer, pinks and browns,
flower petals mixed with dirt.
“George” is dumb, naive,
long statements and loud noises.
“Robbie” is short, quick,
a red fox running into the wood.
“Brenna” is the color of champagne,
effervescence, bubbles floating to the top.
“Alex” is a crash and shatter,
the sound of breaking glass.
My name is nothing, an echo.
