Of metal means
With metal words

That clang
Reverberating
Hard as steel

Begging
Pleading
“Let me in”

Tempting
Promising
“I want to stay”

A reason,
Any reason,
For why he should leave?

Mankind has none

With wide plastic smiles
Cheap praise
And dreams for the future

We welcomed him
Into our homes
Into our arms,
Into our very bosoms

We can’t ask him to go

Metal Man
Of Metal means
With Metal words
And metal machines

Builds up civilization
Breaks down the earth

Up go the metal trees
Up fly the metal birds
Up stretch the metal mountains

Up and up
Higher and higher
Greater and greater

Till nothing is left
That is not shiny
That is not fake
That is not metal
Or of this man
