Story of my Life

Most nights
I lay awake
gazing up
heart beat so faint.
Another day
gone to waste
stuck in a cycle
i cannot break.
The life i live
in the day
feels so fake
why?
i cannot say.
i like the night
so warm so clear,
so accepting
i have none to fear.
All the others
do not understand.
They say the night
cannot be had.
They wouldn't know
with their lives of gold
they need light
or they wouldn't glow.
As for me
i fare best in the dark.
The moonlight
sets me apart.
So give me my midnight
you take your sun,
I'll keep the moon
and with it I'll run.
