"And some mornings I’d wake in daylight to find my body covered with paw prints in blood; I looked as though I’d been painted with roses"- Annie Dillard

I am sinking.
The sun casts tiny rainbows
Across the still surface of the lake.
Birds sing in the distance
As soft, white clouds drift daintily,
Across the pale blue sky.
The water beneath,
still and serene.
But, underneath its surface,
The swordfish spears the trout,
Hunting for food.
The clouds darken overhead
And clap their giant hands together
As their tears cascade down my back
My anchor falls to the depths of the ocean
I am sinking
