The Rain Came Falling Down

When the rain comes falling down,
She said,
I think of many tears.
Of joy
And pain
And grief
All from many eyes
So many you could fill an ocean
But these tears are quickly wiped away,
And dry upon their hands.

When the rain comes falling down,
He said,
I think of calm and peace.
And wet
And wonderful
Falling on many heads
So many you could not count
But those heads duck inside,
And are angry at the rain.

When the rain comes falling down,
I said,
I think of everything.
Of joy
Of calm
Of life anew
I reflect on my own life
And the life I want to know
But I'm the happier when it stops,
For it seems the world is new.

We sat there for a while
And watched the water fall
These teardrops from the face of God
To cleanse and wash us all.

The day grew dark with night
And still we sat around
Because the storm had not yet stopped
And the rain came falling down;
Still the rain came falling down.
