1John 4:16

Swiftly, carefully, and precisely
Moves the painter’s hand.
The paintbrush glides with purpose.
His eyes are full of concentration.
He creates the waves of the deep blue ocean,
He crafts the fishing boats,
He constructs the dock.
He generates ripples where the fishing boats float,
He fashions the distant hills,
He produces screeching gulls.
The world is silent to the painter.
Through his eyes,
The world is a painting,
Waiting to be completed.

The author's comments:
This poem is about a painter I watched on a recent trip to San Fransisco. I realized the motions and intentions of a painter are deeper than they appear at first glance. I wanted to describe the way the painter I watched worked because it was so graceful.
