Maybe you are right
And I have no reason to speak
Because how could someone so young
Understand an idea so ancient
That it gnarls the roots of the earth
And shakes free the foundations of our wandering minds
But then again
Maybe you are wrong
I was born into this world
Uneventfully
No births are ever promises--
Despite the many tokens that we try To heave onto their tender heads See,
Everyone comes naked
And it's easy to forget that
When everywhere you go demands a mask
"This can't be so wrong"
You think
Sometimes suffocation is a comfort
And the brittle wall built towering looks almost like a shelter
But it wasn't there to start
Do you realize this?
So maybe being young makes me less cold
Because I haven't had much time
To build up lies
Or trick myself
Into thinking that the oldest truth of all can be reduced
Into a tangled mix of bitter drinks
Familiar bars
And foreign homes
Are not where anyone belongs
And I think that you are missing out
When you turn to smile painfully at a girl you hardly know
Because among all other things
You choose to call this "love"
As if to prove the worn out scam
That truths can be constructed
But some of us know better
And I have no reason to speak
Because how could someone so young
Understand an idea so ancient
That it gnarls the roots of the earth
And shakes free the foundations of our wandering minds
But then again
