The Coming Storm MAG

When the darkness comes
I destroy the world
push them past the barbed-wire gates
past the moat of my own blood
just to wait out the storm
alone
so these fangs can't maim you
so these claws cannot touch you
So I'm the only one left in this room
& demons are real, dear sir
even if you don't believe
they breathe in the shadows
chewing on my soul
they whisper from the cracks
the faults we wish never were
too much light
too much day
too much of everything good,
– you
they press in on all sides
trying to force you out
& you stay
holding my hand through it all.

The author's comments:
This was inspired by my depression (like most of my poems) and how I felt as if I would hurt my boyfriend by the things that I said. So, I would try to push him away, but instead, he stayed with me.

We accept the love we think we deserve

My depression inspires my poetry too. It is an outlet so you don't go insane

I LOVE IT! "Chewing on my soul." That phrase was pure perfection! It's amazing that such beautiful things come out of nasty situations, but you must keep writing!
