As you sit grimly on that swing,
Swaying slowly, suffering in solitude,
You escape into your mind.
You escape to the only place you feel you fit in.
You leave the world behind, waiting for your return,
As you drift away to peace.
But, you should know;

Look around you.
Look at the bully on the playground.
Look at his victim.
Look at the policeman driving by.
Look at the homeless man begging for change.

So as you sulk dismally in that tub,
Sobbing sorrowfully, secluded in your sanctum,
You press the blade firmly against your arm.
You bleed out your pain and hatred of the world
And lie cold and weak in the redness of your emotions,
Desperately searching for peace.

Open your mind and truly see.
See the people around you.
See the children playing merrily in the park.
See the elderly man feeding the birds.
See the young couple sharing a pretzel.
See the married couple bickering over their baby.

Now as you stand solemnly on that stool,
Staring silently, succumbing to suicide,
You slide that rope around your neck.
You say your goodbyes to the world
As your trembling legs kick the stool away.
You steadily rock to and fro, in peace.
But, you should know;

Open your heart and truly feel.
Feel the world around you.
Feel the famished African children with strength to persevere.
Feel the simple, traditional people of the Amazon.
Feel the tortured and brutalized prisoners of war throughout the world.
Feel the millions of victims plagued by disease.
We share the same face.
