I wish to have the courage
To keep lying
With the earth’s heart beating on mine.
I wish to sleep better than silence.
I wish to be as happy
As a cat can be –
An unapologetic
Curled sunlight
Miracle.
I wish to breathe
Without the strings and walls
That convince me
I am fragile.
I wish to shed
The part of me
That resents leaves for
Their unearned laugh lines.
I wish to know
That I am brighter than rain
Beneath my chameleon skin.
I wish to love a boy
As much as I love
Soft peppermints.
And I wish to
Live peacefully
Within the urgency
Of my wishes.
To keep lying
With the earth’s heart beating on mine.
I wish to sleep better than silence.
I wish to be as happy
As a cat can be –
An unapologetic
Curled sunlight
Miracle.
I wish to breathe
Without the strings and walls
That convince me
I am fragile.
I wish to shed
The part of me
That resents leaves for
Their unearned laugh lines.
I wish to know
That I am brighter than rain
Beneath my chameleon skin.
I wish to love a boy
As much as I love
Soft peppermints.
And I wish to
Live peacefully
Within the urgency
Of my wishes.
