Looking Into Infinity

Rumors and twitters
We sneak onto hushed grounds
A group of a dozen
We slip off heavy shoes and
Our toes graze cool grass
We loll our heads back
And stare up
And are swallowed by the sky-
By the stars that mingle in their constellations
Like the ivory beads on my dress and
The glistening beads of sweat on our faces
As we turn and kick up dirt and spin and smile
In the heavy haze of the heavy and scorching atmosphere
That burns through our shorts and shirts and blisters our bumpy skin
We twirl about with our arms at our sides
Or out flailing about us
Someone shines a light and
We’re so disoriented we topple over
Earth tastes like stale bread and decaying steel
A bloody mouth that’s not really bloody
But thick with saliva because
We’re laughing too hard to swallow or spit the earth back at itself
And I know that because I fell face first and kissed the ground
And on the ground
We toss around the meaning of life to the incessant and sharp tune of crickets
While forming meticulous faces in the evanescing stars
And none of us grow tired,
Not affected by the odd and velvety and enticing scent of chocolate that hits our noses
When someone reaches down into their pants
And produces an open and wrinkled pack of hard-and-crunchy-shelled M&Ms
No, sleep doesn’t visit
And we just choke on the moon until the crickets evaporate
And their shrieking is over
And we leave
