I think about all those things
All those things I’ve done
Since I was ten
Horrible things
Like being sick all summer and missing out on fun
Talking in front of the class and how terrible I felt then
Losing teeth and losing love
That fear entering high school and starting 9th grade
Getting some rash from wearing another girls’ softball glove
Moving when I’d rather stayed
Falling from bikes and breaking bones
Having surgery more than once
Repeatedly breaking prized cell phones
Losing friends to stupid fights
Making huge mistakes that still make me feel like a dunce
Learning that being happy is not one of my rights

But with the bad always comes some good
Like getting those well-deserved A’s, not to mention the praise
And getting those almost perfect boys
Laughing too much just because I could
Playing soccer summer in and out
Riding bikes with friends, going so fast you face is being burned by the wind
Selling over-priced cookies for the Girl Scouts
Getting that first and long desired contact lens
That first love, wonderful no matter how fleeting
First kisses, well remembered no matter how awkward
Graduating with my proud mother in view

All things so dreadful, I’d rather forget
All those things so great I hope I’ll never forget
But things that have changed me because I got to have the experience
I think of these things, the good and bad
And as much as I wish some memories of those things would go away
I wish more that you could have stayed
And had some regrets too
But to you all those things will be forever foreign
Because he took them away from you
