Feet dangle inches above
Tantalizingly taunting …
They strive to graze the bicycle’s pedals,
Just as my hands strive to emerge
From the lemon yellow dress
You handed down to me.
My slow growth is too far behind
Your quick judgment,
Constantly comparing a hazy reflection
To that black and white photograph
You have framed in the hallway.
Maybe someday the dress will fit.

wow. this is amazing. first thoughts it made me think of my relationship with my mother. and the struggle that is a constant for me to fit her mold. when in all reality i fit that mold and that is the problem. probably not what you were describing but those were the feelings that were evoked. beautiful.

When I was little I idolize my big sister the same way...if that is what you're describing. Wonderful work.

Aw this is so wonderful. It really describes how a little girl feels. (At least, that's how I took it). Keep writing!
