The Brightly Painted House
A brightly painted house
waits for lodgers.
Wishing someone wondered what
could be inside?
Pedestrians pass, admiring –
no one stops.
With no tenant to attend to it,
the house sits lonely.
Cold crawls
through broken windows.
Dust sneaks
up slippery stairs.
Moisture clings
to hard walls.
And one day,
the house collapses.
And still the paint shines brightly.
