my mistress, my mistress
she flirts, she twirls
she dances, she strokes
she whispers seduction:
"just close your eyes
just for a moment
just a taste
just for you"

my mistress, mistress
how dare she tempt me
after all the cold nights
when she left a dent
next to my begging body
and I called, and I called
and she never came
after all the fearful nights
when she fled from me
too scared to show her face
leaving me
to the dark

my mistress, my mistress
she begs now
she claws at my arm
and I am too weak
to fend her off

The author's comments:
I wrote this at 2 AM while staying up for school work. The combination of desperation and sleep deprivation spurred me to write a poem about the cruel mistress sleep.
