If I had a wish

I would wish to fly
So that when you got too close
I could be up in the air
Too far for you to find me
but close enough that I could watch you move on

If I had a wish

I would wish to be fast
So that when something bad happened
I could outrun my problems
Leaving them gasping for air
and coughing on the dust left in my wake

If I had a wish

I would wish to be sightless
So that naively
I could turn a blind eye to the truth
When it was something that I didn’t want to see
or just wouldn’t believe

If I had a wish

I would wish to love the dark
So that the blackness surrounding me
Would invite me in
Instead of warning me away
all while laughing over my childish ignorance

If I had a wish

I’d wish for the courage
To face my fears as myself
Rather than to change
to make myself easier to avoid
