The American Cupcake
Starts with humble Ingredients
Two cups
Of the bitter and gritty flour
From the days we struggle through life
One cup
Of the sugar in our Mother’s love
Three young eggs that struggle
To leave their shells of comfort
A chunk
Of buttery goodness
That tempts every decision
A teaspoon
Of vanilla in every kindness
We share
Add a few nuts
And a pinch of salt
To spice up life
And bake
But
Our tiny vanilla cake
Is not complete
Without red frosting that reminds us
Of battles we’ve fought
Topped with every color sprinkle
Imaginable
That’s flooded to America
In search of hope
The finishing touch
A blue freedom candle
Lit with sacred fire that
Lady Liberty
Holds herself
Enjoy
