He's the Catcher in the Rye

I just sat down
And watched the girls
There were about a million
Sitting and standing around

Looked like swell girls
If you knew them
It was really nice sightseeing
It was sort of depressing

You kept wondering
What the hell would
Happen to all of them when they
Got out of school and college
I mean

Probably marry
But who the hell knows?
Old Sally started coming up
She looked terrific, really did
Felt like marrying
I’m crazy, I know
I felt like I was in love
And wanted to marry her
I swear

God I’m crazy
I admit it
She was so damn good-looking
But always gave me a pain
Like hell

Told her I loved her
How crazy I am
“I love you too,” she said
Right in the same damn breath,

Wasn’t as bad,
As some, old Sally
I sort of hated old Sally
After listening to that

She looked damn good
Pretty cute, too
When I’m in a certain mood
I’m in bad shape, lousy shape

Here’s my idea
It’s fantastic
We could get married or something
We could have a terrific time

I’d get a job
What’s the matter?
You don’t have to worry
Don’t you want to go with me?
Say so

Should get married
Depressed as hell
I said no, open your ears
I was beginning to
Hate her

Sorry as hell
Like a madman
If you want to know the truth
I meant it when I asked her
