Burn These Bridges

We were walking…
Slowly, cautiously, carefully
Your hand in mine,
You were my guide.

I tried to let go of your hand,
Wandered from the path,
But when I crossed the bridge to sanity,
I was thrilled that I was back.

I stopped—and looked back at the bridge—
The same distraction lay on the other side.
I never wanted to go back,
And regress from by your side.

You told me in my heart to burn the bridge right there.
The feeling… bittersweet as I lit the match
Shakily, I let it drop…
The fire displayed the collision of my spirit and flesh.

The inferno rose up, and there was no way back.
The feeling… satisfaction as I watch it burn.
I turn to see your face – I’ve made you proud.
I take the opportunity to truly learn.

Once again, I am by your side…
Safe and sound from the world outside.
Focus. It’s not hard to do
When my whole world is about you.

I absolutly love this. I love how it tells a story. I also really like the rhyme scheme. I only have one small thing, the 4th stanza did not flow as well as the others. But other then that I loved it! (:
