Here It Shall Stay...

As time passes on,
As leaves change in color,
As icicles melt,
As flowers grow further,
Those who adore the blazing sun
Shout out in joy, "Look, the sequence is done!"
For summer is here,
And here it shall stay,
'Til autumn doth come,
And leaves rot away.
Then the cold winds will blow
And ice shall prevail,
For winter is here,
And here it will hail
All animals, plants, and people alike,
To stay where 'tis warm
By the night’s firelight.
But one cold morn,
The ice shall be gone,
And in its place,
Grown a bright green lawn.
Those who survived the winter's reign
Shall rejoice and say,
"Never again
Shall we slave
To the ice away,
For spring is here,
And here it shall stay,
Never go away!"
And yet, still yet,
As flowers grow older,
There will be a day
When they wish it were colder.
For summer is here,
And here it shall stay,
