"Life is like a bowl of cherries, with a few nuts thrown in."

This is where I belong
Here, with crisp leather reins
tangled through my fingers
skin soaking in this strange gold light
that is native to this place
it can hit every angle of
every blade of grass
and make it burst into emerald pixels,
every facet radiating moist light
and the crimson coat of the muscle beneath me is a
magnificent contrast, all fire and rain.
Smacks of cold wind sing against my cheekbones
as we roar past fences and under tree branches
and over mud water and across the sky
We challenge time, defy boundaries.
I know he is ten days out of shape
there is the smallest stiffness in his gaits;
he is heavy rocks and choppy ocean waves,
yet I press on as he graciously accepts
every impulsive demand:
Go ahead, I tell him, rip up the ground
as I lean forward and laugh out loud.
Yes, I know
today should be easy, slow, stretch, soften, bend'
Not possible.
Not now.
Today I need insanity in my veins
icy breath in my hair
muscle carrying my spirit
Pushing, pulling, running, sliding, digging,
flying
across the pockmarked corn field,
open arena universe
somewhere between heaven and earth
wind and water
captivity and freedom.

I dedicate this to everyone who know what it's like to find security and freedom when riding their horse.

Wow.....this is so beautiful!! Though I have never really been able to ride a horse in open space, I feel what you feel. This poem is amazing, you bring the reader with you on the back of that horse!! Magnificent job!!!!!
