Only Words

Why do I even bother?
My words are meaningless when other lips dismiss them with a smirk
They are thrown back at me with sharpened stinging syllables
I wince under the torrent of voice
Ringing clanging telling me that they are
Puny and weak, crumpled and miserable
I beg How do I make them not so?
The world laughs down at me and says No
Never will you speak like us.
Never will you sound like us.
Never will your words slash like a sword of a tongue and daze like the glare of a sun and thrill like the depths of an ocean.
