Lights are what I see
Who knew such gorgeous things, could surround young, fragile me
I am 4 years old
In a world where everything makes sense
Characters everywhere, no one looks tense
Lights
Lights are what I see
Who knew such gorgeous things, could surround young, fragile me
I am 6 years old
The lights are in my head
I see stars everywhere because of you
And mommy sends me to bed
She lays there with me safe and sound
Until my sleep circles her around
Lights
Lights are what I see
Who knew such gorgeous things, could surround young, fragile me
I am 13
It’s my very special day
There’s cake and balloons, as I sit down to pray
I pray today will just be happy
But then you go and steal my light
And make that special day, a day I cry all night
Lights
Lights are what I see
Who knew such gorgeous things, could surround young, fragile me
I am 14
This day brings me such hurt
Physical, emotional, you treat me like dirt
I have to watch you, act like the adult
As you sleep, I lay on the floor, light shining through my window
That light, highlighting where I’ve been hurt
Lights
Lights are what I see
Who knew such gorgeous things, could surround young, fragile me
I am 15
We are at a park
Surrounded by streetlamps
Making it less dark
I have loved you for a year now
And on this very night
You ask me to be yours
And you fill my heart with light
Light
Light is inside me
Who knew such an amazing thing, could happen to young, fragile me
