Fur so soft,
Eyes so bright.
When you were here,
Everything was right.

But since you left me
With my only comfort pain,
My days have been long,
The nights the same.

I sorrow for you.
I'm sure you see
That your rightful place
Is here with me.

I know I will join you
Then forever we'll stay
Companions always,
By night and by day.

The author's comments:
I wrote this poem after my cat Chess passed away. Writing helps me express feelings I otherwise could not. Anyone who has experienced the loss of a beloved pet can surely understand the meaning of these words more so than those who have not. I can only hope that these verses offer some form of condolence for those few in bereavement.
