We attacked
injecting our shiny instruments
into the earth's fragile skin
We victimized
the earth's half-exposed shin
with needy grass its parasite
covering it like downy hair
We assaulted
beating mercilessly until
in our hands lay
the cytoplasm of the earth
for a "simple transplant"

the earth cried out no more
and as for we?
we smiled and went about
the remainder of our gardening
for
after all,
it was all in a day's work

The author's comments:
Well, I was helping my mom dig up some dirt, destroying the grass in the process, to transplant it to a big divot we had in our backyard. I felt bad about it, and a few days later I came up with this. I didn't intend for it to sound like this, but these are the words I found to match the image.

Awww, thanks. As I read it afterwards, I was surprised at how seemingly graphic it was, as I don't usually write that kind of stuff, but it was what I thought, and so I kept it. I love late-night flashes of inspiration.
