Through Another's Eyes

If I could see myself through another’s eyes,
Would I see a broken human being,
A faded gray silhouette,
A commonplace, intermediate, mainstream girl
Just trying to get around life’s obstacles without losing face,
Or an artist, a poet, a writer, a girl who possesses high levels of creativity?

If I could take a good, long look at myself
Through the window of time,
Would I see a girl coasting along,
Going with the flow of outside events,
Or a strong, confident, moral girl
Who’s becoming a better person with every situation she triumphs over?

If I could examine myself from inside my own mirror,
Would I see a plain old girl
With plain old brown eyes
And plain old brown hair
And plain old regular features,
Or a girl with overly-expressive golden-brown eyes
And caramel brown hair with strands of gold mixed in
And sharp cheekbones
And small, thin-but-plump lips?

If I could see myself through another’s eyes,
Would the girl I see be boring, dull, ordinary,
Or would she be beautiful, radiant, unique?
Intelligent, hilarious, random?
Charitable, honest, wholesome?
All of the above, plus many, many more?

If I could see myself through another’s eyes,
Would the girl I see
Be the girl I try to make myself believe I truly am?
