Wintry Night

Empty branches
twigs stark against the sky.
Blank and bare
in the moonlight,
swishing back and forth
in the icy wind.
Tree as white as the snow,
drifting downwards
slower than sleep.
Snowdrifts pile on the rolling hills.
Burying footprints
leading nowhere.

A wintry night.
