broken

being bent like a pencil
close to snapping
not meant to be turned, snapped, or twisted
and yet I do it anyway

people set them
to try to define us
to keep us in line
keep us in order

I hate to be told
what I can and can’t do
to be told how to act
what to say

I hate to be defined
to have a label put on
to be restricted
to be confined

They are not meant to be broken
but it's easy to do
to break, to disobey
without a second thought otherwise

tauntingly i'm tempted
to break this one little rule
I know I really shouldn't
but I break it anyway

they won’t know it’s me
I tell myself
but of course
I'm caught anyway

then who was it?
they ask when I lie
I don’t know just not me
comes my reply with a smirk

innocent as can be
thats what they see
tiny little nerd
she would never break a rule

returning to my seat I grin
another rule broken
another sentence evaded
coming from a court of superiors

they wont find out who
and that I know
they won’t find the culprit
because they already found and dismissed her

tauntingly I'm tempted
to break this one little rule
I got off last time
so why not again?
