Growing Up
I knew all along this would happen
so why is it I’m blackened and sad?
My heart is on fire,
yet cold to the core
For what is one to do when they are left alone
their dearest friend they trusted only moments ago
have left them, and lost them, and wandered away
“Come back, come back!” I wish to call out and say
I want to call their names until the day becomes night
I want to call their names until I’m all out of fight
but what does one say, when they are left alone
their dearest friend they trusted only moments ago
have left them, and lost them, and wandered away?
“Come back, I need you! Please! Please stay.”
A call into nothingness, that is for sure
because the friends I once knew, aren’t there anymore
They’ve morphed, and grown, and fought, and loved
They’ve become someone new
They’re not the kids I who with I grew
And their eyes tell me unforgivingly,
they don't remember the lovely memories
The times when we’d laughed and cried
How could you all leave me? I wonder
And it hits me. A flash, a bolt, and thunder.
They’ve changed, I realized, because that’s what people do
You grow, and change, and you stop being you
