"I fell in love like you fall asleep, slowly, and then all at once"

Girl
alone
in the cold,
dark alleyway
no one around her
lost in the cruel, cold world
only herself to talk to
everything she could imagine
yet left with nothing, nothing at all
holding herself hostage from everything
no boundaries yet too many walls
clouds overhead, a storm brewing
running but nowhere to hide
nothing can save her now
yet she keeps running
in vain, she tries
escaping
her own
mind
-
-
no door
no way out
a slip, a fall
thrown into the dark
so much misunderstood
and yet all perfectly clear
while the thunder rolls, rumbling
she sees the end off in the distance
hopelessly running, but never nearing
a dance, between prisoner and cage
the world taunts, teasing its weak prey
no way to escape it when
all along her captor
has just been herself
the key was thrown
far away
the lock
clicked
lost
but
no
one
knows

This is the story that relates to me and to everyone in a way. She is trapped in her own mind and can't make it out. The reason behind the formatting is that she is slowly dying within her mind. The structure of the lines represent a heart monitor that eventually flat-lines, hence the title.
