It's Hot and So Am I

The sun is sizzling
The children are yelling
Damn this Florida heat
I’m grumpy.

I want to be inside
Away from shrieking kids
But I have to write this poem
It’s stupid.

Now I have an idea
I shall fool the others
I laugh deviously
In my head.

They think I watch the kids,
Oh how naïve they are
I’m watching who’s next to me
Ha Ha Ha.

Like a mysterious
Feline who stalks her prey
I watch my companion
This is fun.

The tower basks in the sun
While the three of us are burnt
We’ll have lovely color later
Oh gingers.

She asks me who I watch
Of course I tell a lie
“Your sister Emma, duh!”
I smile.

So my poem is done
Florida is an oven
It’s really really hot
I’m leaving.
