When I look out my window
Into the dogwood tree
I see that single cardinal
And know you are with me.
I struggle everyday
But when I make it through
I know you’re helping me
It is all thanks to you.
Even though you’re gone
And death made us part
You are forever in the pendant
Dangling over my heart.
I wish you could have stayed
And lived a longer life
But old age and illness
Often caused you strife.
If only things were different
And I would like to say
I miss you so much, Grandpa
We’ll meet again someday.
