Growing Up

As a child I loved princes,
with dashing smiles, glowing eyes,
I loved to dance in moon light.
do a jig, a hop, a skotch,
but as the years flew by and by,
and as the leaves on the tree
began to fall softly,
one by one, two by two,
into the depths of nothing,
my mind raced into eternity.
My heart remained thirsty,
petals began to fall softly,
one by one, two by two,
into the depths of something.
Held in your hands and body,
are the remnants of my smile.
But still as I peel the petals away,
realizations dawn in my mind,
you are a boy,
I am a girl
this is a big world.
My new logic knowledge,
surpassed my heart's desires,
I sighed with relief,
knowing that the ghost of the
child I was, is nowhere to be found.
