The Martyr
Alone she stands
In a teeming battlefield
Alone in her thoughts
Alone in her struggles
To die for her cause
Or to live for herself
Her shield is her defense
Against her raging conflict
She strikes out with her sword
At her clashing states of mind
To die as a martyr
Or to live as a deserter
A woman in stature
But a child in her heart
Her vulnerability a weapon
Against others and herself
She looks at her people
She looks at her friends
Fighting for their beliefs
Blood streaked faces full of life
She raises her blade
And embodies her cause
