Look At Me Now
Look at me now:
Shoulders back,
Head up,
Smile,
No more pathetic shuffling--
Just firm steps
Forward.
Day after day,
You thirstily inhaled
The will
Out of my defeated body;
You encroached upon
More and more
Of my withering life;
You grew more powerful, and
Watched me shrivel up
And fall to the floor;
You heartlessly looked on
As I slipped away
Into a desperate oblivion.
Look at me now:
Look at the way I laugh,
How I dance,
Learn,
Run,
Discover.
You want my hope,
My smile,
My strength,
My life,
My faith
All to yourself.
But no.
"What's mine is yours"
Is over--
I won't share my beauty
With you,
Who tried so hard
To steal it,
Who tried so hard
To destroy me,
And nearly succeeded.
Look at me now:
Walking forward,
Traveling home.
Look at me:
Watch me fade
Into the distance,
Leaving you behind,
And not looking back
Even once.
