Unwound

Maybe I push too close
Maybe I pull too far away
But this I know for sure
I cannot seem to mean as much
To ones who mean as much to me
Whether I try to hard
Or not at all
Myself is all I seem to have
One is all I seem to know
I cannot seem to be loved
As I love them
I give my heart
I give my soul
Though they may not see it
I give them all I have
But I have nothing left for me
No matter how long I’ve known you
How long we’ve acknowledged the other’s existence
I have loved you
Each and every one of you
And I still do
I am a never-ending spool that can be drawn upon
For love, for heart
For music, for art
For dark, for light
For all in between
For calm, for zest
For all that I mean
Give I must
And give I will
With a thankful heart
But one that does not beat
It is still as I stand alone
Letting myself be unwound
With a smile
