Knots in my humor as knots in a tree
Have yet to change with my maturity
For life happens fatedly as you do
Seems a dire wish merely to Muse with you

Though the trunk of my years grow rings
Of adulthood, a newfound cynicism brings
A plane upon my optimism does dance
Deceiving me to defense, a newfound romance

Standing at the edge of my eighteenth year
Has done little to ease my fears
Adults, childishly, seem not to change
Only growing taller with years and age

As life plays itself to be somewhat transient
My life changes only with my investments
More visceral I grow each year anew,
If only at the price, to laugh with you

The author's comments:
As i'm getting closer to being 18 I feel like I'll be inducted into some great club of adulthood where everyone respects me, but that just simply is not true. This one is more about how we try and be mature but it's pointless when life is transient and everything comes and goes
