Favorite Quote:
"Both optimists and pessimists contribute to the society. The optimist invents the airplane, the pessimist the parachute." (George Bernard Shaw)

As the magic escapes from one’s wand,
Mine escapes from my mind.
At school,
I prance around,
I absorb knowledge and filter it throughout:
The many crinkles in my brain…
Orange juice is separated from pulp.
They look at me,
As my arm reaches up to line vertical to the wall,
Look at me,
As book-ridden words cascade from my well-used mouth.
My wand can also let out tricks,
But my mind is the cleverest trickster of me in all.
Orange Juice is separated from pulp.
And you?

I make my words attach to people,
Like the North Pole of a magnet seeks for the South Pole.
During speeches,
They stare at me as the national colors swirl behind,
As the excited and frazzled newspeople report their found treasures.
I really want to return to my home,
The house always open to various presidents and their families,
This time,
I will enter as: “Mrs. President”
Orange Juice is separated from pulp.
I utterly despise this boy,
In my new class.
He crunches up my every whim;
Yet,
Somewhere, an inkling of friendship sprouts from my thoughts.
Orange Juice is separated from pulp
During the elections,
He was somewhat of my political “challenger,”
Yet,
Somewhere, a chunk of respect sprouts from my thoughts.
Orange Juice is separated from pulp.
We have our stubborn minds,
Our strong voices,
Our occasionally rough-edged opinions.
So,
We need to change.
Change our ways of thinking.
Compromise and strengthen!...
Orange juice is separated from pulp.

The author's comments:
I wrote this piece in 9th grade for a poetry assignment where they asked us to write about an important figure to us. I could not decide between Hillary Clinton and Hermione Granger, so I concluded that I must write on both. The Hillary Clinton described in my poem is the the one during the 2008 election, and the Hermione Granger is mostly the Hermione Granger in the first book of the Harry Potter series by JK Rowling.
