Afraid to Love

I can’t close my eyes
Through the darkness your face appears
Reminding me of the cold painful things you did
To me throughout that year, and the next.
I can’t close my eyes
Through the black I see your figure
Thin but strong. You take control
I’m down, I never had a chance.
Love is such a painful thing
You used it to gain my trust
Then rip me down,
Love is cold and dead
You taught me that.
As I lay here at night,
I keep my eyes wide open
And try to forget the boy
Who made me afraid to love a man.
