I Have Never

I have never seen someone without pain in their eyes
I have never met a teenager who has seen the light in life
I have never had a boy kiss my forehead and be satisfied
I have never met a man that left his kids
I have never experienced someone dying that was close to me
I have never been to New York
I have never meant it when I said I love you to a boy
I have never trusted anyone but myself
I have never had sex in the light
I have never been comfortable with my body
I have never tried sweet potatoes
I have never been in a committed relationship
I have never loved anyone more than my family
I have never depended on my father
I have never seen the world
I have never made 100 on the TAKS test
I have never believed in fairy tales
I have never read a book that was good for me
I have never met Justin Bieber
I have never been to a concert
I have never eaten what was good for me
I have never tried a V8
I have never liked spicy lollipops
I have never seen a true mountain
I have never been camping in a tent
I have never thanked someone for just being alive
I have never appreciated anyone more than my grandaddy
I have never spent the night on a farm
I have never seen the movie I Am Legend
I have never been to a different state
I have never liked the woods
I have never liked to walk a lot
I have never found it peaceful to lay on my back
I have never looked up at the sky at night just to see the stars
But one thing I have done was hide all my scars

There are many things I have not done. I have always wanted to say something that made me feel free, and in this poem I feel I can express it. Just knowing what I have not done or seen and putting it into words is like a weight lifted off my shoulders.
